Social Media Integrations with Vanilla Forums

Use social integrations to make it easy for members to sign up and share content. In the following post, we show you some of the options you have with Vanilla Forums.

The Setup

The Social Settings for Vanilla Forums can be accessed under Forum > Social

Social_Integration_menu

Some of the social networks you will have access to include:

Twitter

Twitter Social Connect allows your community members to do the following:

Sign in (via Twitter) for SSO

Twitter_Settings

Get your credentials from Twitter to allow members of your community to log in with their Twitter account.

Share content to Twitter with one click

Enabling Social Reactions allows members to click on content and share directly to Twitter with one click from the reaction menu.

Automatic Twitter Social Share

Social_-_Connect

If you enable automatic Social Share, if a member connects their Twitter account (in their own community profile) they will be able to publish their content directly on Twitter. Check out this post to learn more about setting this up.

Facebook

Facebook Social Connect lets community members do the following:

Sign in (via Facebook) for SSO

Facebook_Settings

Get your credentials from Facebook to allow users to your community to log in with their Facebook account. It also allows members to use their Facebook name and receive a welcome email.

Share content to Facebook with one click

Enabling Social Reactions with Facebook allows users to share content to Facebook with a simple click in the reaction menu, just like they can for Twitter. Content is formatted to look great on the member's timeline.

Automatic Facebook Social Share

If you enable automatic Social Share, if a user connects their Facebook account (in their own community profile), they will be able to publish their content directly on Facebook. Check out this post to learn more about setting this up.

Google+

Google Social Connect lets your community members do the following:

Sign in (via Google+)  for SSO

Google+ Settings

Get your credentials from Google by following these instructions to allow members of  your community to log in with their Google+ account. By selecting "Use Avatars", their profile will use their Google+ photo.

Sharing content to Google+

Enabling Social Reactions with Google+ allows members to share content to Google+ with a simple click in the reaction menu, just like they can with Twitter & Facebook. If there is an image in the forum post, it will also be included in the Google+ post.

Share_on_Google_

Enabling Social Sharing with Google+ will allow content to be shared automatically to a member's Google+ account if they connect it in their forum profile.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn Social Connect lets your community members do the following:

Sign in (via LinkedIn)  for SSO

LinkedIn_Settings

Register your app with LinkedIn to get your credentials. This will allow members to register and login with LinkedIn. Currently, there is no share to LinkedIn option via the plugin. We offer a ShareThis plugin which does offer this ability.

Disqus

Disqus Social Connect lets your community members do the following:

Sign in (via Disqus)  for SSO 

Sign_In_-_Disqus

Just register your application with Disqus, and now any member of your community can login with their disqus.com credentials. Learn more about this plugin here.

Auto-Embeds

As you can see, there are plenty of ways you can connect your community to and with social networks, including embedding content without anyone leaving your site.
