Vanilla displays a different theme to users who are accessing your forum using a mobile device. We’ve always felt that a purpose-built mobile theme provides a better user experience than a responsive desktop theme or an app download.

Today we are happy to announce a new mobile theme called Lithe for our hosted customers that incorporates the most recent mobile UI design best practices. Lithe is a Bootstrap-based front-end framework written with performance and consistency in mind.

Lithe is optimized for smaller screens but does not sacrifice important features such as Reactions and inline moderation controls. It features a swipe out menu, action sheets, bigger touch targets and a header and footer that auto-hides to increase screen space for content.

To enable Lithe, go to your Dashboard and click on ‘Mobile Themes’ from the Appearance menu.

The theme will display and auto-sized version of the ‘Banner Logo’ if one has been uploaded. To use a different logo for the mobile theme, you can do so by adding one on the Banner page of the Dashboard. There is currently no support for customizing the mobile theme CSS via the Dashboard. The theme has been designed with minimal graphical elements and a neutral color scheme that has mass appeal. Custom mobile themes can be done as a service by our services team.
