[Product] Creating a Forum Newsletter with MailChimp

1. Grab the RSS feed of recent discussions in your community. The URL will be http://yourforum.website.com/discussions/feed.rss

2. Go to MailChimp and select Create Campaign -> RSS-Driven Campaign:

3. Fill out the form with the URL for the RSS feed and the frequency you wish the newsletter to be sent.

4. Make a pretty newsletter.

Once you have your list, you will need to design a nice newsletter. Make sure to drag over the RSS Items module into your design. One change you may wish to consider is to change “Recent Articles” to “Recent Discussions”.  You can do this by selecting “Custom” from RSS Items Style and modifying the code.

Another thing to note is that, by default, the last 5 posts will be included. You can check out this post from MailChimp on how to customize what your users see. Once you are happy with the newsletter’s design, you can set it to run, and it will go out to your list as you have scheduled.

The following is a really basic newsletter example which we created in under five minutes:

Also, in case you did not know, MailChimp has a free plan, that allows you to send 12,000 emails to 2,000 subscribers a month. Our MailChimp add-on is included in all of our hosted plans, so anyone can easily build their list with MailChimp.

Keep in mind, the same basic concepts shared above, can also be used if you are using a marketing automation solution like Hubspot or Marketo as well!
